Excel spreadsheets revert to manual calculation

From research we learn that if an Excel chart is saved with manual calculation, it will always revert to that setting. This is definitely NOT what is happening. No one has ever used or required manual calculation, and we are using the same primary file on a server, which most days does not carry manual calculation setting.
